Sometimes it’s the most familiar Scripture passages that are hardest to “hear.” Today’s passage may be a little like that. It is worth a close reading, with fresh eyes, and God willing, a fresh heart. Notice carefully what precedes the “famous” part of this passage. Do you ever wonder if the various encouragements/commands here may be connected? Anyway, just as we trust God to be true to his big promises about our future inheritance, we also trust him as our Father in heaven in the present as we sojourn here as strangers and aliens in the world. He is at hand! He invites and calls us to come to him, and to pray, and to give our cares to Him, and to trust and believe that hears us and will take care of us. It’s a discipline to learn, but so important. I hope you are encourages and challenged by this passage today – Philippians 4:4-7:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
